Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) has achieved an important benchmark with the completion of the Schematic Design phase. Conceived by architect Norman Pfeiffer, of Pfeiffer Partners, the building's final design boldly announces its artistic nature and spirit. Every detail is designed to the exacting standards required of a great performing arts center.

Schematic Design is a critical phase, and the months of design and analysis by our project team has resulted in a clearly defined plan that meets the technical and aesthetic requirements of the building with a comprehensive scope, detailed budget, and construction schedule. With the completed design, the Board of Directors also approved a new budget that includes $115 million in construction costs for the new Center. This raises the overall goal of the Campaign For PACE to $160 million, from its original goal of $100 million.

The original budget for PACE was based on 110,000 square feet and estimated construction costs of $60 million, set several years ago for the early concept design. The approved design adds 25,000 square feet. The additional space provides programmatic enhancements devoted to unprecedented ease of access and physical connection to Bellevue's burgeoning downtown infrastructure. Important functional improvements to the performance hall as well as regional construction cost escalation, exceeding 25 percent over the past four years, are fully incorporated in the new budget.

With an approved design and actual construction costs, the Building Committee was able to arrive at a realistic funding goal that has the enthusiastic support of the Board. A corresponding change in the project timeline has Design Development starting in fall 2007, Construction Documents beginning in winter 2008, Construction commencing during summer 2008, and the Grand Opening of the new Center slated for fall 2010.
