Bucks For PACE

BELLEVUE, WA. (May 22, 2006) – The Act One Guild has taken on its most ambitious project to date—the Bucks For PACE public art and fundraising project—to raise funds for the Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE), opening 2009.

The "Herd" arrives at Bellevue Square on June 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., when visitors can meet the artists, enjoy entertainment, color Buck drawings or have photos taken with the Bucks. The Herd will be on display until June 17th, 2006. Pacific Northwest artists transformed these twenty-six life-size Bucks (male deer) into magnificent one-of-a-kind art pieces. In addition, artists have created original works of art on 40 tabletop Bucks, which are available via silent auction online at the Act One Guild website starting on June 1st.

After the two-week display at the Square, the Bucks migrate to their summer grazing sites throughout Bellevue and Medina in public spaces for everyone to enjoy (see attached map for exact locations). Before winter sets in, the Bucks will be auctioned off at the Guild's 2006 Candlelight Dinner and Bucks For PACE Auction on Oct. 21, 2006 at The Westin Bellevue.

This is not the first, but it may be the most spectacular, project taken on by the Act One Guild, a group of 40 volunteer members who generously donate their time to raise money for PACE. In 2004, the Guild commissioned private art donations for a silent and live auction at their first Candlelight Dinner. In 2005, The Candlelight Dinner featured dancing and entertainment by Primo Kim. Both Dinners were sold out well in advance. Tickets for the 2006 Dinner go on sale this summer. Collectively, the Guild has donated more than $250,000 to PACE and plans a significant donation from the Bucks For PACE project.

"The Bucks For PACE will create visibility for PACE and provide a wonderful, playful public art display throughout the summer in our community," says Suzanne Hutchinson, director of guilds for PACE.

"The Guild's contribution to PACE in terms of funds, hard-work and dedication is outstanding," says Linda Bonomi, director of development for PACE. "This is a creative and exciting new project. The artists they selected offer a wonderful mix of creativity and style that make these Bucks truly sensational."
